Andy Tomkinson MBCI
Andy delivers business continuity, incident management and disaster recovery across all sectors. He was an elected Board Director of the Business Continuity Institute before resigning in October 2006. Andy chaired the Survive Personnel SIG and serves on various committees and forums. His credentials are based upon experiences in business continuity management since retiring after 10 years service in the Royal Artillery in 1997.
Clients include investment banks such as Henderson Global Investors, financial services such as Axa, logistics such as Exel, charities such as the British Red Cross, retailers such as Comet, construction such as Carillion, manufacturing such as GKN and public sector such as DWP. He is based in St Annes, Lancashire with his wife Angela, also a MBCI.
As an advocate that people are as important as technology and premises he promotes the personnel issues within the context of business continuity management. Active service in Northern Ireland, the Gulf War and Bosnia during 10 years as an Army Officer has provided some interesting experiences relating to contingency planning, crisis management and liaison with emergency services. His exposure to management issues in arduous environments gives him a credible view on stress, training and performance.
Commercial experience as a production manager at News International, business development manager at Survive, recruiter for Euro Search and Selection and managing director of Kingmaker has exposed him to the real business issues that win competitive advantage, improve business as usual processes and preserve enterprise integrity. He conducts career counselling and individual mentoring within the business continuity industry. He is currently a partner of Adtapt.
Andy frequently chairs and presents at conferences, has a variety of published articles and has appeared on TV, Internet and Radio.
