Ian Speirs MBCI
Ian Speirs (44) delivers business continuity, incident management and disaster recovery across all sectors. He is a senior consultant with Adtapt a leading edge business continuity consultancy and training firm. His BCM experience includes all dimensions of BCM and he spends much time facilitating rehearsals and training. A retired Army Officer, he is a decisive and dynamic leader with a proven track record in meeting demanding targets in a variety of arduous and challenging environments. He is an infectious enthusiast and highly motivated who gets the best out of those he works with.
He was responsible for rehearsals and training for clients such as Capital International a global fund manager and Boots the chemist household name retailer. He has experience in all facets of BCM including risk evaluation, business impact analysis, plan building, crisis management, disaster recovery, rehearsals, maintenance and audit. He is very familiar with compliance under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and Ian is qualified as a Lead Auditor for BS25999, passing the first ever BSI Lead Auditors course in December 2007.
At the City of York Council Ian was responsible for the formulation and implementation of a Business Continuity Strategy. He prepared decision papers, supporting policy documents and strategy papers for executive members. He planned and implemented Business Continuity plan in accordance with BCI good practice guidelines and CCA 2004. He also provided out off hours duty emergency cover and coordination of council resources in response to requests from the emergency services.
Ian was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1988 and commanded a frontline operational unit deployed on operations to Kosovo and Iraq as well as training exercises worldwide. He was a regional manager for fire and rescue services during the Fireman’s Strike County Durham. He retired as a major in 2005.
He lives in Ripon North Yorkshire with his wife and son. He is Head Coach for Ripon Rugby Club’s First XV.
His qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Business Administration, and he is Prince 2 practitioner. He is studying for an MA in Crisis, Risk & Disaster Management at Leicester University. He is a health and safety advisor, first aider and qualified RFU Level 2 rugby coach.
